Heritage Talk: Preserving Our History – One Rose at a Time

Join us at the Central Stories Museum and Art Gallery for an evening with Murray Radka, one of New Zealand’s leading rosarians. He will delve into the rich history of Central Otago’s heritage roses, found in the region’s old farms and gold mining sites. Murray’s extensive research has revealed the origins of these resilient roses, many of which have been blooming for over a century. He has built a renowned collection of over 2,000 heritage varieties at Frendy Hill. This presentation will demonstrate the importance of these flowers as a vital part of our cultural heritage and their crucial role in our future. Whether you’re a seasoned gardener or just curious about the history of Central Otago, you’ll discover inspiring stories and a new appreciation for these beautiful connections to our past. Entry is by donation, with proceeds supporting the Central Stories Museum and Art Gallery.
