Barbara Fraser

Barbara Fraser has been a Trustee of the Central Otago Museums’ Trust since its inception and as a volunteer has been heavily involved in the planning and construction of the Teviot District Museum’s new display premises on Scotland Street in Roxburgh. Growing up on an Earnscleugh orchard, Barbara then studied at Otago University gaining an Honours degree in English and moving onto a career in teaching at St. Peter’s College in Gore, then at Roxburgh Area School.  She has had wide experience in writing, directing and producing drama productions for both schools, and coaching debating teams. Having retired from teaching mainly English and Arts and being in schools’ administration teams, she brings together her creative and organisational strengths and her life-long interest in her Central Otago family histories and other heritages.   Along with other like-minded and committed volunteers, she has thus enjoyed her roles in contributing to the Museum’s preservation and promotion of the Teviot Valley’s historical treasures and stories. While living in Gore, Barbara was involved in both playing and umpiring netball, gaining a NZ Umpire’s Badge.  She has been a practising artist and adult art tutor,  and was on the Eastern Southland Gallery Committee for many years.  As an adult she learnt to play the violin and has played in the Central Otago Regional Orchestra since moving to Roxburgh.  She has great interests in gardening and enjoys researching and reading.
